Summary
Technicians are only as good as the tools they leverage, and the information obtained from the tests they perform. Understanding what the tool can do is key to successful and efficient diagnoses…but understanding what it CANNOT do is absolutely crucial.
This class combines the power of understanding the laws of physics (each diagnostician leverages every day) and how the diagnostic tools we implement display those laws at play. Without this understanding, we lack anticipation of how “good” and “not-so-good” captures will exhibit. And, that unfortunately leads to memorization, which is not reliable.
Join master diagnostician, Brandon Steckler as he pushes a series of tools to and beyond their capabilities. Realizing this valuable technique will help technicians learn to evaluate tools for comparison and decided which tools work best for them and their situation.
Brandon will demonstrate several tools throughout the duration of this class and expose their favorable operational characteristics as well as their pitfalls, because all tools have pitfalls. Tools include:
• The Ohm meter
• The LED test light
• The Incandescent test light
• The “Logic Probe” (With the rocker switch)
• The DVOM (voltmeter)
• The DVOM (secondary functions)
• The Digital storage oscilloscope
• The Graphing multimeter
Brandon will also discuss the limitations of the test results that the tools display. Realizing these limitations will help indicate to technicians why some tests led down a not-so-desirable path into the weeds.
Technicians will leave class with the understanding that every tool and every test has limitations. They will learn how to evaluate tool performance for best tool selection, how to set the tools up for diagnostic success, and how to evaluate test results to prevent assumptions about the conditions of the systems or components being evaluated.

Summary
You’ve probably heard that “networking is everything” but no one tells you how to do it without feeling awkward, fake, or like you’re bothering people.
This session is about changing that.
Sara and Tracy met through networking in the automotive industry, and now they’re not just collaborators, they're close friends who built careers they love through the power of showing up, reaching out, and finding their people.
And neither of them started as “natural networkers.” One’s a classic introvert. The other was behind the mic. If they can do it, so can you, and it doesn’t have to feel uncomfortable or forced.
This session helps you:
Build real relationships that make your work and your life better
Start conversations that feel natural, not salesy or scripted
Recognize local and industry spaces where your presence matters
Encourage your team to connect, grow, and represent your shop proudly
Use tools like social media, events, and follow-ups without the awkwardness
Find and support people who truly want to see you succeed
This isn’t about trading business cards or practicing elevator pitches. It’s about growing through connection, one genuine conversation at a time.
Whether you’re trying to grow your career, build your reputation, or just get out of your shell a little, this session gives you the mindset and tools to make networking feel like something you want to do, not something you have to survive.
Because the right people are out there.
And finding them might just change your life.

Andrew Fischer - TechFixAndrew started his path in the automotive world at a very young age. His grandfather Joe was a shade tree mechanic who held training in very high regard. From a young age Andrew would go to classes with his grandfather at nights and on weekends taking notes for him. Through this, his love for the diagnostic side of automotive repair blossomed. Andrew attended UTI in 2002. After leaving UTI he started his career in a high performance specialty shop learning the ins and outs of the internal combustion engine. From there he grew as an automotive technician in the independent shops of Northwest Indiana. Soon he found himself working in a GM dealership where he specialized in diesel and transmission repairs. From this his love for trying to understand all things mechanical grew. In 2018 Andrew found himself in a position to take over teaching duties at a local high school automotive program. This grew his love for teaching and sharing his knowledge. He states that the lessons he learned in teaching the younger generation of potential technicians drove him to create a training company. Andrew started FACTS Fischer Automotive Training and Consulting Services in 2020. At the conclusion of the 2020 school year Andrew decided to go back into the shop to enhance his skill set. Andrew currently works as a diagnostician in NW Indiana.

He has also been the main mechanic for a 9000-acre grain farming operation where he worked on everything from string trimmers to hillside combines. The growth in automotive electronic control systems eventually drew him to the automotive side, where his fascination with how things worked sparked a drive to learn. Through various opportunities, he learned multiple skills in the automotive industry. Working in the bay, on the counter, and as a technical support and salesperson provided a nuanced understanding of the industry. This eventually developed into a business where Jim provided technical support for diagnosis, module installation, and reprogramming services in the early 2000s. This opened up an opportunity to become a trainer for CTI in 2007. Jim ended up teaching others everything he was ever passionate about. From radio-controlled flying to martial arts to shooting and SCUBA, those skills helped him teach technicians with a practical mindset. This role had opportunities to provide specialized instruction and collaborate on programs for national companies and independent shops across the country. He eventually was offered a position developing curriculum for other instructors. His fascination with teaching and brain science led to a certification as a content curator for an adaptive learning platform. Summary
This is an interactive class. It is intended to be a discussion about the things we do not know. Any individual working in the transportation business is learning new things. The normal course of our days should be exposing us to these things daily in many ways. It does not matter if we are in the front or back of the shop, the need to learn and grow is one of the appealing realities of this career for many. If you want to learn the secret to becoming an upper-echelon technician, this is a highly recommended path. It is not an easy button class or silver bullets. It is not a “look what I can do” class. It is a discussion about the pursuit of excellence. Bryan and Jim openly admit that they do not know everything. The more they learn, the more they realize how much there is to learn. This class is built around real examples of vehicle repair processes and the need to find and apply knowledge to solve problems ranging from hybrid drivability to diesel emissions. It will also provide strategies for improving problem-solving skills and information about the reality of how we learn. Some myths may also be shattered. If you are looking for a class that shows how to use a scope to check the phase of the moon or the latest fad techniques that have been out for 25 years, these may not be the droids you are looking for. If you would like to participate in a discussion where audience participation is encouraged, there will be opportunities to network with others and learn from each other. Bryan and Jim look forward to speaking with you in class.

This class will delve into developing a solid process for problem-solving and process improvement. Too often, the silver bullet is not the most effective answer. This process can be applied to fixing a vehicle in real time. The same process can be used to move a business from its current state to a desired future state. These concepts are not new, but they are timely. This is the result of Dr. Edwards Deming's work from decades ago and is key to why Toyota has evolved into the type of business it is today. Many people try to replicate the RESULTS of this method, but the real magic lies in learning the TECHNIQUES used to develop custom solutions

Coralee Zueff - Five Star Service Advisor"Coralee Zueff has over 23 years of experience in the automotive industry, bringing a wealth of knowledge to many aspects of the automotive industry. She started as a technician, moved to sales and found her “sweet spot" as a parts and service advisor. Coralee's interactive classes cater to both experienced professionals and newcomers, encouraging knowledge sharing and peer learning to reinforce new skills. Rather than using scripts, she helps participants craft their own authentic explanations to confidently communicate the value of diagnostics and other services. For more than a decade, Coralee led a thriving European import shop on Vancouver Island, mastering the unique art of keeping high-performance vehicles at their best. Along the way, she learned the ins and outs of diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs plus what their drivers expect from a truly elite service experience. Coralee works with shops to identify and boost sales of underperforming services like wheel alignments, flushes and air & cabin filters. She digs deep to uncover the root causes behind weak sales and provides tailored solutions for improvement. Her book “Five Star Service Advisor” is often a best seller on Amazon. Not only does Coralee work in automotive, she also plays in automotive. When not talking shop, she can be found autocrossing her 2019 VW Golf R at the local track."
Summary
While technicians often have a wealth of training opportunities, service advisors are frequently left without the same level of development. However, the success of any automotive shop hinges on the advisor’s ability to effectively communicate, sell, and upsell services to customers. Without this balance, both financial performance and team morale can suffer.
In this we’ll focus on practical strategies to help you boost service sales and enhance customer communication. We'll begin by tackling real-world diagnostic case studies, diving into how to communicate diagnostic processes to customers effectively—emphasizing the critical point that diagnostics are not a free service.
Next we’ll review modern manufacturer maintenance schedules, diving into extended oil change intervals and lifetime fluids. Finally, we'll explore commonly recommended maintenance services, with plenty of room for active discussion and participation.
Be sure to grab a copy of Coralee’s highly anticipated new book on Diagnostics, Repairs, and Maintenance, debuted at VISION2026 and offered right here at this class!

Summary
Technicians play a critical role in whether recommended work gets approved, often without realizing how much influence their documentation and communication truly have.
In this class, Technicians will learn what happens after they complete a DVI and how Service Advisors use their notes, photos and videos to communicate value, urgency and trust to the client. Attendees will gain a behind-the-scenes look at the Advisor’s sales process and learn exactly what information advisors need to confidently present recommendations without confusion, pushback or delays.
This class focuses on practical, real-world documentation strategies that help Technicians clearly explain findings, support recommendations and reduce back-and-forth between the shop and the front counter. When Technicians document effectively, advisors sell more confidently, clients approve more work and Technicians see more hours on their timecards.
Key takeaways include:
-What service advisors actually do with DVIs once they’re submitted
-How unclear or incomplete documentation creates lost sales and frustration
-What “sellable” documentation looks like from an Advisor’s perspective
-How to clearly communicate condition, cause, consequence, correction and confirmation
-How better documentation leads to higher approval rates and more work per RO
This class is ideal for Technicians who want to see more of their recommendations approved without feeling like they need to “sell” while improving teamwork, efficiency and shop profitability

Summary
Let’s set the stage, a vehicle enters our service bay, and it has a noticeable misfire with a P030X code. Simple enough, right? We go through our normal process, looking at scan data, moving around plugs, coils, injectors, whatever system you have. But, the misfire still exists? What do we as professionals do next? Could our process use some refining? If you are open for opinions we are going to lay the foundation on how to attack misfire concerns effectively and efficiently.
